Communication and community-building have been at the core of Green Bay-native Alex Galt’s work for more than 25 years. He graduated from Indiana University straight into the start-up culture of the first dot-com boom. Later he sharpened his communication skills as co-owner of Kavarna Coffeehouse in Green Bay with his wife, Linda. Their café, which they sold in 2019, became an early testing ground for many sustainable practices as well as an important “third place” for the community. In 2020, he and Linda started a small food processing company that seeks to bring the same mindset to the production of hummus and other foods.
Wanting a deeper understanding of how to address climate change as a society, Alex earned a master’s degree in Sustainable Management from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2024. For two years, he served as the City of Green Bay’s Clean Energy Connector, working under a time-limited U.S. Department of Energy grant to connect Green Bay residents to federal and state clean energy incentives. He has also worked on the problem of food waste as Director of Programs at Rooted In, a Green Bay-area nonprofit.
Alex is thrilled to bring this experience to the Lakeshore Natural Resources Partnership. Lake Michigan and the Niagara Escarpment are his two favorite geographic features on Earth, and helping to protect and restore them, and to ensure their resilience in the face of climate change, is a privilege.
He also enjoys spending time with his wife and two college-age children, particularly outdoors, as well as pursuits such as film photography, cycling, woodworking, and working in a bookshop.
