Silver Creek Park - Manitowoc

Silver Creek Park is set on the shore of Lake Michigan with a creek running through the area and scenic overviews. It consists of 71.74 acres and boasts several unique features such as rolling topography, rural-like wooded public areas, and a winter sports area. A 36-hole disc golf course is available to be used year-round. There are approximately 2.5 miles of winter fat tire bike trails located on the property which is groomed by the volunteer group Heavy Pedal Velo Club. Silver Creek Park is comprised of two separate parcels.

The restoration goals include:

  • Stabilizing stream banks with soil lifts, wood structures, and riparian native tree/shrub plantings.

  • Improving stormwater infiltration and reduce direct discharge to waterway.

  • Performing invasive species control, plant native tree and shrubs to enhance habitat, increase native species diversity, and manage established remnant communities

    • Increasing the availability of high-quality grassland and forested habitats for migratory songbirds and upland game birds.

  • Remove ash impacted by Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) as needed where snags are a public safety concern.  Leaving some snags for wildlife habitat.

  • Controlling established populations of Japanese knotweed.

  • Creating a diverse, nectar-rich herbaceous habitat to support declining populations of pollinators.

  • Enhancing the structural complexity of riparian and coastal habitats.

  • Establishing adaptable forest communities onsite.
