Sarah Bartlett, PHD, is the Water Resources Specialist at NEW Water, the brand of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District and is responsible for NEW Water’s Aquatic Monitoring Program. As part of this work, she monitors the water quality of lower Green Bay and the lower Fox River. For more than 10 years, Sarah has been studying cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (HABs) and their toxins in these area waters. In 2024, she received a grant from the Wisconsin Coastal Management Society to amplify awareness of public health risks associated with HABs. This educational campaign called “Avoid the Ick” was launched in 2025 around the Green Bay area and is led by NEW Water. Sarah holds a PhD and MS degrees from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a BS from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
