Conservation has been part of the fabric of Mike’s professional career from early on. Mike’s love of all things outdoors led to degrees in Forestry and Resource Management from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Following time with the US Forest Service, Mike earned a masters in Science Education from Iowa and spent many years teaching Biology and introducing water quality conservation to thousands of high school students. In 2011, Mike co-founded a non profit organization that provides servant leadership opportunities to high school students in impoverished areas of Jamaica and Guatemala. Mike also served as an elementary principal in Greendale where he introduced hundreds of young students to the value of an outdoor education, created school green teams, and served as the district Sustainability Director. In 2019, Mike co-founded and then led a nature-based charter school called the Riveredge School which introduced water conservation and land ethics as a foundational part of its curriculum.

Outside of work, Mike is a ski instructor, bee keeper, avid fisherman and hiker. He loves touring the midwest on his motorcycle and fly fishing the driftless area. Mike lives in Cedarburg with his wife Donna and has 2 children.
