Program Highlight: FMRW Watershed Cleanup

In June, Friends of the Manitowoc River Watershed hosted their first-ever Watershed Cleanup Weekend, and it was a great success! As a first-year event, the weekend provided not only a valuable impact but also key takeaways to guide future cleanups. Efforts began in Manitowoc, where volunteers rolled up their sleeves to clean Lower Henry Schuette Park, Silver Lake Park, and the Mill Street River access park. Although weather cut some activities short, the Friends of Stony Brook had also planned to clean up the roadside near their newly restored stream at the Hahn property. In Cleveland, the Friends of Hika Bay hosted a dedicated team of volunteers that tackled cleanups at Hika Park, Fischer Creek Conservation Area, and Point Creek Natural Area.

Thanks to their work, and the commitment of local volunteers, the event totaled over 24 volunteer hours in just one day, with 16 total people covering 6 different sites.

We are excited to build on this momentum next year as we continue to highlight the importance of watershed health and community involvement!
